On Sunday January 29/2017 we had our 5th annual Formula Ford Drivers brunch meeting. We had 12 drivers attend and it was a very enjoyable time. The meeting was an opportunity to catch up with friends and competitors during the off season and to engage in some friendly bench racing. The 2017 season should be very interesting as we will have a number of new drivers coming out to join our regular group from last season in addition there will also be a couple of drivers who have been away for awhile returning to the sport.
We would like to welcome Alastair Ferguson from Coquitlam to our Formula Ford group. He has just recently purchased Sean Kearney’s 1985 Van Diemen RF85. Alastair has racing in England and competed in the Classic Formula 3 Series for a number of seasons. We wish him well with his new car and many years of fun racing in Formula Ford. He is hoping to have his new car out for a number of the races this season and we look forward to seeing him in it.
The Sports Car Club of B.C. has just released their race dates for the 2017 season. There will be 6 Confederation of Car Clubs (CACC) race weekends consisting of 3 races per weekend for a total of 18 events that will make up the CACC Championship for formula cars and sedans. In addition there is also be 1 International Conference of Sports Car Clubs (ICSCC) race weekend on the September 1-4th long weekend. All these races will count towards the Sports Car Club of B.C. We would like to welcome Andrew Dobbie from Langley to our Formula Ford group. He has just recently purchased a 1991 Van Diemen RF91 that was in Ottawa. Andrew is a new comer to the sport and 2017 will be his first season of racing. We wish him well with his new car and many years of fun racing in Formula Ford. We look forward to seeing him and his new car out at our first race next year.

Erle has been racing a Birken S3 (Lotus Super 7 replica) at Mission Raceway for several years now in the Sports Racing class. On October 29/2016 the Sports Car Club of B.C. (SCCBC) presented their year end awards at the The Coast Hotel & Convention Centre in Langley. The top 2 finishers in the Formula Ford Championship received their trophies for their fine season long performances. In 1st place was Alan McColl with 185 points, in 2nd place was Doug Floer with 152 points. Congratulations to the both of them for their efforts this past season. This final race weekend of the 2016 season was dedicated to the memory of long time Westwood racer and Sports Car Club of B.C. member Tony Morris who passed away earlier this year after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed in our local racing community. This was the penultimate race weekend of the 2016 season and both the CACC and SCCBC Formula Ford Championships were still up for grabs. The battle for both titles was down now to a fight between Alan McColl and Doug Floer as the rest of the competitors had already between mathematically eliminated from the Championship title battles. Having sold his Van Diemen RF79 to Rick Payne at the end of last year Keith has recently purchased the Van Diemen RF82 that Frank Winterlik had for sale. It is great to see Keith back in a competitive car again and we look forward to seeing him on the Formula Ford grid for the remainder of this season and in the years to come.
