The International Conference of Sports Car Clubs (ICSCC) made its yearly stop at Mission Raceway, once again returning to its traditional Labour Day Weekend date after being forced to move to another date last year. Unfortunately no American Formula Ford drivers made the trek north which left only our regular local drivers to compete for the class wins. While this event is run under an ICSCC sanction and rules, it still counts point-wise towards the Sports Car Club of B.C. (SCCBC) Formula Ford Championship but not towards the CACC Championship. For this weekend we had Martin Phillips from Vancouver join the group for his first outing in his Van […]
The 30th edition of the B.C. Historic Motor Races were held on the August 19/20th weekend. These races did not count for points in either the CACC Formula Ford Championship or the SCCBC Formula Ford Championship for those competitors who participated. In all there were 6 Formula Ford races over the 2 days and 9 Formula Ford drivers were entered. In addition to our local drivers there were 3 out of town drivers who made the trip to Mission Raceway to join the group. They were Chris Schoap from Eugene, Oregon who brought his Titan Mark 6, Doug Lorraine from Three Hills, Alberta in his Lola 540 and Lorne […]
Following a 1 month break in the schedule, it was time for Rounds #12,#13 & #14 of the CACC Formula Ford Championship. With only 1 more CACC Race Weekend on the 2017 schedule, that being Oct.14/15, a strong performance this weekend would pretty much assure Doug Floer the CACC Formula Ford title. This weekend also saw Andrew Dobbie debut his new to him 2005 Van Diemen RF05. This car replaced his Van Diemen RF91 which he started the season with, the RF91, unfortunately, wasn’t a good fit for him as he wasn’t able to comfortable in the cockpit. Race #1 In qualifying on Saturday morning Doug Floer in his #62 […]
In 1967 I attended a Jim Russell Racing School class at Snetterton race track in Norfolk England. I had been a Formula One and general road racing fan since I was about 12 years old. I don’t recall the model of car I drove but for 8 British Pounds (about $20!), a week’s wages, I got to drive up and down a short straight between some cones in one gear! In 1970, now living in Toronto, I wrenched on a Winkleman/Palliser for one of the Bulova Formula Ford Championship competitors and my reward was the use of his car for my Novice race at Harewood Acres (Niagara […]
The start of this race weekend marked the halfway point in the 2017 CACC race season. With 9 races completed Doug Floer was sitting with a comfortable lead in both the CACC and the SCCBC Formula Ford Championships. At this point in the season it would take an almost Herculean effort by one of his competitors to unseat him as the leading contender for the championship titles. For this weekend we welcomed back both Alan McColl in his #03 Tiga FF79 and Olov Brandfors in his #88 Crossle 40/45F. It was great to see both of them back on the track again. Race #1 Following Saturday morning’s qualifying session […]
This weekend encompassed races #7,#8 & #9 of the CACC Championship for Formula Fords. Unfortunately we were missing a few regulars, Alan Baker was out due to an engine problem in his Van Diemen RF89, Keith Robinson had gone to the Formula Ford 50th Anniversary Races in Indianapolis, Andrew Dobbie was at the Formula One race in Montreal and William Kwan’s car was still under repair after his mishap the previous race in April. This resulted in a very sparse field of only 3 cars entered for this event. Race #1 Doug Floer in his #62 Van Diemen RF94 was the fastest of the Formula Fords in qualifying. He […]
After a 3 week break the competitors once again gathered to fight it out for our 2 local Formula Ford championships. All the participants from the 1st race weekend, earlier in the month, were back and they were joined by William Kwan of Burnaby who was making his 1st start of the season. Race #1 Qualifying for Saturday’s race was held on a dry track under overcast skies with a threat of rain showers in the forecast. Doug Floer in his #62 Topsoft Computing Systems Inc. Van Diemen RF94 was the quickest among the Formula Ford drivers. He was followed by Keith Robinson in his #90 K&G Auto […]
The start of the 2017 race season began as a soggy affair on Saturday, not unusual for this time of the year. Thankfully the weather conditions did improve as the weekend progressed. We also had 2 new comers to the Formula Ford group join us for this first race of the year. Erle Archer in his Tiga FF79 is from Kelowna and has previously competition experience in the sports racer class and Andrew Dobbie is from Langley and he is new to the sport. We hope to see them both at the majority of our races this season. Race #1 The first qualifying session of the year, in very […]
On Sunday January 29/2017 we had our 5th annual Formula Ford Drivers brunch meeting. We had 12 drivers attend and it was a very enjoyable time. The meeting was an opportunity to catch up with friends and competitors during the off season and to engage in some friendly bench racing. The 2017 season should be very interesting as we will have a number of new drivers coming out to join our regular group from last season in addition there will also be a couple of drivers who have been away for awhile returning to the sport.
We would like to welcome Alastair Ferguson from Coquitlam to our Formula Ford group. He has just recently purchased Sean Kearney’s 1985 Van Diemen RF85. Alastair has racing in England and competed in the Classic Formula 3 Series for a number of seasons. We wish him well with his new car and many years of fun racing in Formula Ford. He is hoping to have his new car out for a number of the races this season and we look forward to seeing him in it.
