Organized by the Vintage Racing Club of BC this event is a stand alone race weekend and is not part of any championship series. It is a less intense, no pressure weekend of fun racing. We had several drivers from outside of BC join us for the Formula Ford race including Doug Lorraine from Three Hills, Alberta, Mike Adams from Regina, Saskatchewan and Chuck O’Connor from Port Townsend, Washington.

Race #1

The 15 minute long Saturday qualifying saw Alan McColl driving is #03 MCE Motors Tiga FF77 grap the pole for the race that afternoon. He was joined on the front row by Doug Floer in his #91 Topsoft Inc./MK Technologies Van Diemen RF81. The second row was suppose to be Alan Baker in his #21 Van Diemen RF89 but Alan’s car suffered an engine failure which ended his weekend. Next to him was Keith Robinson in the #90 K & G Auto Recyclers Van Diemen RF79. In row three was Frank Winterlik who was debuting his new car the #55 900 Werks Porsche Specialties Van Diemen RF88 and Chuck O’Connor in his #02 Winkelman WDF2. Row four consisted of Al Cruickshank in his #89 LeGrand MK21 and Doug Lorraine in his #97 Lola 540. They were followed by Mike Adams in his #69 Chinook MK IX.

Alan McColl jumped away at the start and proceeded to open up a gap on the rest of the field. It was a lead he was never to relinquish as he crossed the finish line in 1st place and set the fastest lap of the race. The rest of the finishing order was Floer, Robinson, Winterlik, O’Connor, Cruickshank, Lorraine and Adams.

Qualifying: 1. Alan McColl (Tiga FF77) 1m13.074s, 2. Doug Floer (Van Diemen RF81) 1m15.547s, 3. Alan Baker (Van Diemen RF89) 1m16.355s, 4. Keith Robinson (Van Diemen RF79) 1m16.419s, 5. Frank Winterlik (Van Diemen RF88) 1m18.720s, 6. Chuck O’Connor (Winkelman WDF2) 1m19.337s, 7. Al Cruickshank (LeGrand MK21) 1m22.084s, 8. Doug Lorraine (Lola 540) 1m22.655s, 9. Mike Adams (Chinook MK IX) 1m24.728s .

Race #2

For Sunday’s race the grid was set using the finishing positions from Saturday’s race. This saw Alan McColl #03 MCE Motors Tiga FF77 on the pole again with Doug Floer #91 Topsoft Inc./ MK Technologies Van Diemen RF81 beside him. Row two was made up of Keith Robinson #90 K & G Auto Recyclers Van Diemen RF79 and Frank Winterlik’s #55 900 Werks Porsche Specialties Van Diemen RF88. They were followed by Al Cruickshank #89 LeGrand Mk 21 and Doug Lorraine # 97 Lola 540. Unfortunately neither Chuck O’Connor or Mike Adams started the race.

Once again Alan McColl made another very good start getting ahead of the rest of the field. He was first into and out of Turn #1 and from there he steadily drew away from the rest of the field. He continued unchallenged leading every lap to take the chequered flag and he also set the fastest race lap along the way to what was another convincing victory. Floer finished 2nd followed by Robinson, Winterlik, Cruickshank and Lorraine.
