Following a 1 month break in the schedule, it was time for Rounds #12,#13 & #14 of the CACC Formula Ford Championship. With only 1 more CACC Race Weekend on the 2017 schedule, that being Oct.14/15, a strong performance this weekend would pretty much assure Doug Floer the CACC Formula Ford title.
This weekend also saw Andrew Dobbie debut his new to him 2005 Van Diemen RF05. This car replaced his Van Diemen RF91 which he started the season with, the RF91, unfortunately, wasn’t a good fit for him as he wasn’t able to comfortable in the cockpit.
In qualifying on Saturday morning Doug Floer in his #62 Van Diemen RF94 set the fastest time among the Formula Ford drivers. He was 1.6 seconds quicker than Dave McKay in his #45 Lola 644 who was the 2nd fastest qualifier. Dave was followed by Alan Baker in his #21 Van Diemen RF89 and Andrew Dobbie in his #90 Van Diemen RF05. Neither Erle Archer in his #04 Tiga FF79 or Keith Robinson in his #90 Van Diemen RF82 went out for this qualifying session so they would both have to start the race from the back of the grid.
Once the green flag dropped, to start the race, Doug Floer grabbed the Formula Ford lead and he held it all the way to the checkered flag. He had pulled out a gap over 2nd place man Dave McKay and was unchallenged in the race. Dave crossed the finish line in a strong 2nd place followed by Alan Baker in 3rd place and Andrew Dobbie in 4th place. Behind them came Keith Robinson in 5th and Erle Archer in 6th.

Doug took the checkered flag in 1st place and was followed by Dave in 2nd place and Keith Robinson in 3rd. Congratulations to Doug Floer on winning the 2017 CACC Formula Ford Championship, his 3 wins this weekend now give him a mathematically insurmountable points lead. With only 1 CACC race weekend left on the calendar (Oct.14/15) Doug has a 48 point lead over 2nd place man Dave McKay, as there are only 27 points available for winning the next 3 CACC races, he can‘t be beat for the title. Also congratulations to Dave McKay on finishing 2nd in the Championship as he has a 40 point lead over 3rd place so he too can’t be overtaken in the Championship. The 3rd place position in the Champion is still undecided and is being hotly contested by 5 drivers, it will go down to the last race of the season.
